Chapter 2 - Retreat into Denial

In the late sixties I married young, divorced, and remarried. Both wives were survivors, both took the approach ``it's over, forget it, get on with life'' - as did I.

In the second marriage, it was even more pronounced. Friends and family fawned over the second wife, saying ``how good she is'' for me... while at the same time stressing how much work I had to do to ``straighten up''...

I swallowed it all, believed it all... and the struggles continued...
